When it is cold and the temperature is low, it is normal that our fingers to be cold, because the limbs receive less blood pressure because it is focused more on the vital organs.
But what happens when our fingers are always cold even though the temperature is warm. The reasons can be more than one.
Raynaud’s Disorder
Raynaud’s disorder is a rare condition in which there is a narrowing of the blood vessels in the fingers (sometimes also the toes and the nose), which causes the fingers to cool down, become white, then blue and once the blood flow returns it turn red; we also feel numbness and tingling.
The good thing that Raynaud’s disorder is transient, can be avoided with a change of diet, wearing gloves and avoiding emotional stress, which is almost always the cause of this evil.
Autoimmune diseases
Another reason for finger cooling is autoimmune diseases; such as lupus, disease that attacks the tissues; the scleroderma, disease that produces hardening and the healing of the skin and the tissues; rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune disorders.
Hypothyroidism
The hypothyroidism affects the thyroid gland and puts it out of control, remember that the thyroid gland is the thermostat of the body, it is not uncommon that affecting our limbs and consequently our fingers, besides problem of overweight, constipation, fatigue and feeling cold. This disease is more common in women and in people over 50 years.
Circulation problems
Circulation problems almost always affect the extremities and the fingers commonly. This problem decreases blood flow which in turn makes it difficult to pump the heart, which prevents correct irrigation throughout the body. You also feel numbness or tingling in your fingers.
Anemia
Anemia lowers the production of red blood cells or hemoglobin, resulting in weakening of the whole body, fatigue, headache and cooling of the limbs, nausea, dizziness and pale skin.
Vitamin B12 Deficiency
Vitamin B12 is important formation of red blood cells that is why its deficiency causes decrease in the production of red blood cells, which can transcend anemia. This vitamin is found in red meats, in poultry and dairy meats. This problem is common in vegetarians and in people over 50 as they have trouble absorbing this vitamin from food.
Low blood pressure
Hypotension or low blood pressure is caused by several reasons, such as dehydration, blood loss, medications and endocrine disorders. This problem causes blood vessels to move blood from your extremities to the vital organs, which causes them to cool irreparably; dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, nausea, etc.
Stress and anxiety
Stress and anxiety affect almost the entire body and hands and fingers are not the exception. It causes the blood vessels in the extremities contract and therefore cool.
Medicines
There are a variety of medications that contract blood vessels and arteries; and among their collateral damages have numbness and cooling of fingers and limbs. Among these are the medications for the cancer, for the migraine, decongestants among others.
Smoke
The nicotine from tobacco contract blood vessels accumulates the plaque in the arteries and reduces blood flow in the extremities. Sufficient reasons to cause cooling in limbs and toes of feet and hands.
