Little-known side effects associated with obesity

According to figures from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1 in 10 people in the world have problems with obesity. An obese person is one who has a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more.

Overweight and obesity are linked and bring with countless health problems such as hypertension, cholesterol, high triglycerides, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, etc. But there are other side effects associated with excess weight which also influence health, which are not as widespread:

Headache

According to a study by researchers at Johns Hopkins University and published in the journal Neurology, the higher the BMI, the greater the chance of having migraines. According to the figures, by this study that examined 4,000 people, obese people have an 81% higher risk of experiencing at least 14 headaches per month compared to people with normal weight.

To more body fat plus cancer cases

The National Cancer Institute in the United States associates an increasing number of cancer cases with obesity. And while they do not talk about a cause-effect relationship, they do have a persistent question on the obese.

Fertility Problems

A study carried out in the India to 300 obese women found that over 90% of them had developed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition associated with infertility.

Risk of premature birth

According to a study by The Journal of the American Medical Association, obesity increases the chances of having a premature baby, especially when the body mass index of the mother is greater than 35.

Insomnia

According to a survey of the American Dream Foundation, 80% of obese Americans have trouble falling asleep.

Low self-esteem

The problems of self-esteem as a consequence of the physical appearance and of being the easy target for the mockery, are a constant among obese.

According to Rebecca Paul, author of a study at Yale University, 67% of overweight people have been humiliated or intimidated in the medical office, which entails that the patient suffers from low self-esteem, depression and even suicide.
